Grafton wins Stirling Prize for Kingston’s Townhouse

Kingston University’s Townhouse has won the 2021 Stirling Prize.

The £50m, six-storey complex was designed by Dublin-based Grafton, led by Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara.

With this latest award they have achieved an architectural hat-trick, having won both the Royal Institute of British Architects Gold Medal and architecture’s biggest prize, the Pritzker, last year.

Lord Foster, the jury chair, called the Townhouse “a theatre for life – a warehouse of ideas”.
