Consultation launched on next phase of Ebbsfleet

Ebbsfleet Development Corporation has launched a public consultation into its plans to create a new centre for  Ebbsfleet Garden City in Kent with homes, shops, restaurants, health facilities and workspace on land around Ebbsfleet International Station.

EDC has been working with masterplanners at Weston Williamson + Partners and Allies & Morrison to produce the plans for the scheme, known as Ebbsfleet Central East.

It hopes to deliver a planning application for the site in 2022 and is seeking to deliver “high-quality, flexible workspace” to create “a new dynamic and innovative sub regional business hub”.

The firm said the plans would be flexible to allow for new ways of working that emerge from the pandemic and respond to other technological changes and the way we travel in the future.

Ebbsfleet Central East, the majority of which is currently being used as a car park for Ebbsfleet International, will provide a range of “leisure and pleasure” facilities including restaurants, shops, arts, film and music venues, with the aim of creating a vibrant place for residents and workers to enjoy.

It also promotes well-designed, carbon-zero housing developments laid out around high-quality public realm, streets and green squares, and amenities to support a healthy and happy lifestyle.

Ian Piper, chief executive of EDC, said the plans were the “most important” the corporation had come forward with so far.

The consultation material can be viewed at: ebbsfleetcentral.commonplace.is . The consultation is open until 14 January.
