West End footfall felled as hospitality suffers

Footfall in London’s West End has plummeted by more than a quarter as shoppers and revellers stay away.

Visitor numbers were 27% lower on Tuesday compared with the same day in 2019, according to the New West End Company.

In a separate survey published this week by UK Hospitality, just over 50% of venues around the country reported a drop in revenue of at least 40% for last weekend, while 20% said revenue had fallen by more than 60%.
