Barnet approves 565 PSBA beds at Hendon Hub

Barnet Council has approved three stages of its Hendon Hub project to provide student accommodation, a library and teaching block on council land.

Barnet is working with Middlesex University to redevelop five council-owned sites at The Burroughs, Church End, Fuller Street and Prince of Wales Estate to create a civic and academic centre.

Councillors voted in favour of the plans at the committee on 10 January.

The pair will redevelop Middlesex University offices at the Ravensfield and Fenella sites at The Burroughs as a 384-bed student scheme, also providing 28 flats, a public library and creative facilities in blocks of up to seven storeys.

A second project at the Meritage Centre at Church End will see 181 PBSA beds, 33 shared-living homes and a health centre. Building 9 and Hendon Library will be turned into a four-storey teaching block.

GL Hearn is advising planning.
