Hammerson in £120m talks to sell Leeds shopping centres

Hammerson has confirmed that it is in talks to sell its Victoria Gate and Victoria Quarter shopping centres in Leeds in a £120m deal.

The REIT responded to press reports over the weekend with a statement saying it is holding talks with Redical, which made its first purchase last year when it picked up the Clayton Square shopping centre in Liverpool.

“Hammerson’s strategy remains to realign the portfolio to focus on prime urban estates through disposals of non-core assets, to strengthen the balance sheet, and to re-cycle capital into its core portfolio and its development pipeline,” the company said.

The company added that at this stage there is “no certainty” a deal will take place.
