The prime minister has called for a “climate change pass” to help wean the West off Russian gas supplies.
Boris Johnson is believed to want the West, particularly the US and Canada, to ramp up gas production to remove the “massive leverage” Russia has over EU countries. The move would effectively suspend the commitment to be net zero by 2050.
It comes as former UKIP leader Nigel Farage launches a new campaign group, Britain Means Business, which aims to shelve the current climate change targets.
“Green subsidies are shovelled straight into the bank accounts of rich landowners, wealthy investors and foreign-owned conglomerates who own much of the renewable energy sector,” Farage said.
