A single lot received more than 70 bids in 45 seconds during a busy sale for Savills.
The live-streamed auction on 2 March raised £52m – Savills’ highest March total since 2015 – with a success rate of 78%.
There was strong competition throughout the day, with lot 44a attracting a particularly intense bidding frenzy from buy-to-let developers and investors seeking to refurbish the three-bedroom house in Dartford, Kent. The mid-terrace house was guided at £120,000 and sold for £271,000.
The highest-value lot was a detached property in West Ealing, W13, arranged as two flats, which went under the hammer for £2.3m (lot 60, pictured).
Jeremy Lamb, Savills’ auctions director, commented: “Buyer demand has been strong for quite some time, but there was definitely a sense with this sale that people were extremely keen to transact and invest in the assets on offer.
“Development land, residential properties in need of refurbishment and investment sites all performed particularly well on the day, with a number of lots going for significantly above their guide prices.”
Other highlights included:
- Lot 2, Wakehurst Road, Battersea, four-bedroom semi-detached house – sold for £1.205m
- Lot 25, 0.85 acres of land in South Ockenden, Essex, with plans submitted for 38 homes – sold for £1.09m
- Lot 94, 2.92 acres of land in Northwich, Cheshire, with planning permission for 49 homes – sold for £1.84m.
