St Helens Borough Council and the English Cities Fund have lodged plans for the first phase of the Earlestown and St Helens town centres regeneration.
The move follows the approval of the wider masterplan early in February.
The partners are seeking permission to demolish existing buildings in St Helens town centre and to construct new office space, a hotel, new market hall, town centre living, retail space and redeveloped public spaces.
In Earlestown, the plans are focused on the transformation of the central market square with a new market hall canopy, together with wider public realm improvements to key high streets.
Leon Guyett, development director at ECF, said: “With ECF partners recommitting to the joint venture until December 2036, this means we’re able to continue with our mission to taking our long-term, holistic approach to creating places in key levelling up areas that deliver benefits to communities.”
