Henry heads Harworth’s sustainability strategy

Harworth has promoted Peter Henry to the newly created role of director of sustainability.

Henry, who joined the land regenerator and developer in 2012, was most recently regional director for the Yorkshire & Central region, leading on projects including the regeneration of the former Orgreave Colliery in Rotherham, as well as Gateway 36 in Barnsley, and Thoresby Vale in Nottinghamshire. He has also been integral to forming many of Harworth’s sustainable regeneration and placemaking principles.

Henry said: “In my 10 years working at Harworth, I have seen first-hand the very positive environmental and social impact of our regeneration and placemaking expertise. I am excited to be leading Harworth’s efforts in this important area, as sustainability moves ever further up the agenda for our stakeholders and society at large.

“What we do as a business really matters, and I look forward to helping Harworth continue to put the environment and communities at the heart of our developments.”

He will report to chief executive Lynda Shillaw, and will be a member of the investment committee.

Shillaw said: “Harworth prides itself on being a responsible business, embedding ESG into the way we work and the developments we deliver. Peter is ideally positioned to drive forward our work in this critical area, bringing with him a passion for creating sustainable places, a deep knowledge of our business and stakeholders, and a long track record of delivering large-scale regeneration.”

In his new role, Henry will lead the development and implementation of the company’s ESG programme, dubbed the Harworth Way. He will work closely with the board ESG committee to build on the progress made by the company in recent years, focusing initially on embedding sustainable development principles into each of Harworth’s large-scale regeneration projects.

He will also take the lead on the formation of the company’s net zero carbon pathway.

Ed Catchpole and Chris Davidson will succeed him as joint regional directors for Yorkshire & Central.
