Donald Trump is appealing against the $10,000-a-day fine he was handed after failing to hand over documents relating to his property empire.
The former president was issued a contempt of court order earlier this month for not turning over documents and information that had been subpoenaed by New York state attorney Letitia James.
James is investigating whether the Trump Organization provided incorrect real estate valuations to secure favourable loans as well as tax deductions. She recently claimed that the office had uncovered “significant evidence” of wrongdoing.
Trump had promised to comply “in full” by 31 March, but did not, James said. Manhattan judge Arthur Engoron granted James’s request for a contempt order, fining him $10,000 a day.
