Carbis Bay Hotel tears down illegal beach huts

Carbis Bay Hotel in Cornwall is tearing down the extension it erected without planning permission for the G7 summit last year.

The St Ives hotel failed to get the green light from Cornwall Council before erecting the “forest lodges”, and angered campaigners by chopping down mature trees and bulldozing habitats to make way for them in spring 2021.

Cornwall Council ordered the structures be dismantled, but the hotel had managed to stave off this request with appeals. All those appeals have now been thrown out.

The hotel claimed the buildings were “meeting rooms” and essential for the summit of world leaders. But opponents noted the resemblance to plans for forest lodges that had been refused planning in 2018.
