BNP PRE hires Cortland’s Screen as resi capital markets head

BNP Paribas Real Estate has appointed Cortland’s Andrew Screen as its new head of residential capital markets.

Screen was previously senior director of investments for Europe at Cortland, having joined the business in 2018. During his time at the US multi-family giant, he played a key role in establishing its £4bn build-to-rent development and investment platform in the UK.

Before Cortland, Screen held senior roles at ReSI Capital Management, CBRE and GVA.

At BNP PRE, Screen will advise developers and investors in negotiating and securing funding and investment opportunities, amid predictions that the sector will expand beyond single-asset deals to portfolio transactions.

He will lead the team alongside Simon Williams, head of national markets at BNP PRE.

Screen said: “The build-to-rent sector has [experienced] rapid growth over the past few years, which presents an excellent opportunity to expand on BNP PRE’s existing BTR valuation and advisory services.”

Williams said: “Andrew is an exceptional hire for the business, and one which places an established market leader at the helm of our residential capital markets client activity. Increasingly, the BTR sector requires experienced advisory input as competition for sites and shifting trends make it easy to make mistakes.”

BNP PRE said its residential capital markets team is advising on the forward funding of BTR projects with a combined gross development value of more than £800m.
