Wandsworth ‘land grab’ millionaire sues developer

A multi-millionaire motivational speaker who built a £4m home too close to his neighbours in Wandsworth, SW18, is suing the “developer”.

Alex MacPhail agreed last year to pay his neighbour, Tom Gueterbock, £237,000 in damages and costs, on top of his own even bigger legal bill.

He is now suing Henderson Court for £530,000, alleging that the developer was responsible for building a basement extension that was bigger than the planning permission allowed.

He has told Central London County Court that as a result of the developer’s “negligence”, its insurance should cover all costs from his unsuccessful battle with the neighbours.

Henderson Court has denied liability and told the court that MacPhail engaged in a “self-build” for which he alone was responsible. The company argued that it was not the “developer” of the property but merely a vehicle through which ownership of the building plots was obtained.
