HBD lodges plans for 310-flat Leeds BTR scheme

HBD, the development arm of Henry Boot, has lodged plans for a 310-home build-to-rent development in Leeds.

The company bought two buildings spanning 60,000 sq ft in the city’s Mabgate neighbourhood from owner-occupier Cohen & Wilks in 2020, and has now applied to redevelop the site into a scheme known as Mabgate Yard.

The homes, set across four blocks ranging from two to nine storeys, will cover various tenures and types, including affordable. The scheme will include commercial space across the ground floors.

A planning statement for the outline planning application said the Cunniff-designed scheme “will help to further catalyse development investment in this area, for which there is a longstanding aspiration for regeneration and transformation”.

Mabgate is highlighted in the planning documents as home to “a growing creative community”, described in Traveller magazine as one of the “coolest” neighbourhoods in the UK.
