A 460-acre site set to be turned into a new village in North Leicestershire has changed hands.
Davidsons Homes and Barwood Homes have bought the land, between Birstall and Rothley, from two private landowning families. The developers plan to build 1,950 homes to create Broadnook Garden Village, which will also include community facilities, a primary school, retirement housing and employment land.
Planning permission for the garden village development, backed with Homes England funding, was granted in 2020.
A spokesman for Wells McFarlane, APB and Newton LDP, which advised the vendors, said: “This sale has been a decade in the making, requiring extensive collaboration and local knowledge to navigate the complexities associated with a scheme of this scale.
“From the outset, the project was encumbered with significant and numerous challenges, including a demanding planning background and highly technical design and infrastructure requirements. However, the team addressed the various hurdles to bring forward this substantial new community that will provide much-needed housing together with employment land, education and a new district centre.”
