The government is spending more than £5m a week to store PPE in warehouses.
Ministers have been accused of a “sickening” waste of taxpayers’ money for paying around £700,000 a day to house the protective gear.
A report by the National Audit Office found 14.2bn items of PPE were languishing in storage — slightly less than the 17.3bn items that were delivered to frontline doctors and nurses during the coronavirus pandemic.
