Plans have been lodged for a £27m veterinary school at the University of Central Lancashire, Preston.
The proposals include the delivery of a new 45,000 sq ft building, located on one of the university’s campuses on Victoria Street.
The four-storey building will feature labs and simulated clinical facilities, including a pharmacy, diagnostic suite, operating theatres, teaching rooms and office space. It will provide a hub for undergraduate and postgraduate students and staff in veterinary medicine, bioveterinary science, veterinary clinical practice, veterinary physiotherapy and rehabilitation, and clinical animal behaviour and training.
The proposed development works also include the renovation of the Greenbank Building on Victoria Street, which will contain consultation rooms, a rehabilitation suite, kennels and additional veterinary teaching facilities.
It will be the first development of its kind in Lancashire and the 11th dedicated vet school in the UK.
If approved, construction work is expected to start in March 2023, with completion set for September 2024. The new development is expected to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating.
Sarah Myers, senior planner in Cushman & Wakefield’s planning, development and strategic advisory team, who led the planning application, said: “The school will be integral to the university’s growth ambitions and demonstrates the university’s pledge to invest in the country’s future veterinary practitioners.”
