M&S softens stance on Oxford Street redevelopment

Marks & Spencer has softened its position on its planned Oxford Street HQ redevelopment, ahead of a planning inquiry.

The inquiry, triggered after Michael Gove called in plans to level the existing buildings, rather than refurbish them, will start on 25 October.

M&S has now promised that the planned redevelopment of its flagship London store will involve improved public access and facilities.

It previously described the call-in as “political grandstanding”.
