Gigafactory plans in jeopardy after Britishvolt boss quits

The chief executive of Britishvolt has quit, putting plans for its £3.8bn gigafactory in jeopardy.

Orral Nadjari, the firm’s chief executive and co-founder, resigned after leaked internal memos indicated that construction of the plant near Blyth was stalling and the business’s finances had been put on “life support”. The first production of batteries from the new plant has been put back by at least a year to late 2024.

The Britishvolt project is being watched closely as part of the government’s transition to net zero and efforts towards “levelling up”.
