Stroud strikes out against Starbucks plans

More than 3,300 people have signed a petition to block plans for a Starbucks in Stroud.

The Gloucestershire town is the birthplace of Extinction Rebellion and the UK’s first organic coffee shop.

Starbucks wants to open a branch in the former Poundland store at 1 King Street, owned by Dransfield Properties, which has been vacant for two years.

Dransfield Properties has so far invested £28.75m into the town, transforming a run-down covered market into a shopping centre with independent businesses, food stalls and a boutique department store.
