A building that first used techniques that ultimately enabled skyscrapers to be built has been brought back to life.
The five-storey Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings in Shropshire is the forgotten “grandfather of the world’s skyscrapers” having in 1797 been the first building to be made using an internal frame of iron columns.
The building is re-opening after a multi-million-pound renovation led by Historic England.
Historic England purchased the site in 2005.
