GPE confirms Clifford Chance letting talks

Great Portland Estates has confirmed it is in advanced negotiations with law firm Clifford Chance over a “significant” prelet at 2 Aldermanbury Square, EC2.

Clifford Chance was revealed to be looking for a new HQ in July last year, saying it would downsize from its 1m sq ft offices in Canary Wharf in favour of between 300,000 and 400,000 sq ft in the City.

GPE started work on the 322,000 sq ft Allies and Morrison-designed building at roughly the same time, after securing planning in June.

The 12-storey structure is a redevelopment of the 1990s office block at 55 Basinghall Street, formerly called City Place House, which GPE bought for £104m in 2015.

However, GPE warned: “There is no certainty of agreement at this stage nor as to the terms of any agreement.”
