Vinci has got the go ahead to transform the former BHS and Co-op buildings in Hull into a major mixed-use scheme.
The Albion Square development, which was put out to tender by Hull City Council in 2018 as a retail and leisure scheme, will now be turned over to a city centre park with new workplaces, shops and 226 new homes.
The FaulknerBrowns Architects-designed project arranges four mixed-use blocks around the park, positioned to restore the city’s street frontages and corners. Ground floors will provide shops, co-working spaces and amenities for residents. The floorspace totals around 463,000 sq ft.
The proposals also include a new car park with electric vehicle charging points to replace surface parking, alongside a new cycle hub.
Construction of the £96m development is expected to start this year, with a target completion date in 2026.
Pegasus Group Planning Consultants advised on planning.
