Investor submits plans for Coventry logistics scheme

Investor Wigley Group has lodged proposals for the delivery of a £4.5m industrial space at Stonebridge Trading Estate in Coventry.

The proposals include the development of nine warehouses, ranging from 1,500 sq ft to 5,000 sq ft, to support wider regeneration plans in the Whitley area.

A 34,000 sq ft facility currently on the site will be demolished.

Wigley land and development director Mike Vining said: “This is a real opportunity to create a more practical space to meet the demand for smaller industrial space, with the potential for nine new businesses to establish themselves in this area, bringing with them new jobs, skills and business.”

The proposed scheme will be located across the A45 from Jaguar Land Rover’s Whitley headquarters.

Wigley chief executive James Davies said: “There are ambitious plans in this area to create a gigafactory on the site of the current Coventry Airport and we see this as a scheme which works in tandem with that to encourage and support the growth of industries and the economy in this region, creating a real hotbed for business.”

If approved, work on the project will start in spring next year, with completion scheduled in early 2024.
