Plans for a “Benidorm-style” beach resort at Sandbanks in Dorset have been held up – by lizards.
The £9m scheme, dubbed Rockwater Village, was submitted for planning last year, prompting a clamour of opposition from those who feared the food, drink and entertainment offer would lead to “Benidorm-style beach parties” on the Poole coast.
Developer Luke Davies believed he had won around at least some of the objectors, after persuading them that the development would be in keeping with the area.
But protected sand lizards are not dealt with so easily. The businessman has now submitted new plans to safeguard the lizards after his initial proposals were rejected.
