Demand for homes plummets after mini-Budget fiasco

Demand for homes has plunged by a third in the five weeks since Kwasi Kwarteng’s mini-Budget, research by Zoopla has found.

The decline in interest among buyers was most pronounced in the south-east of England, where demand fell by 40%.

Demand, which is calculated from enquiries made by new buyers to estate agents, dropped by 38% in the West Midlands, 24% in Scotland and 20% in the north-east of England.

Demand for London’s most expensive homes has also been hit, with LonRes saying deals are falling through and the market will not recover until next year.
