The Earls Court Development Company has appointed former Argent development director Peter Runacres as head of urban futures.

Runacres will will focus primarily on the intersection of environmental sustainability, innovation, technology and human-centred design at Earls Court, with a priority on ensuring the long-term resilience of the masterplan and infrastructure design.

The new role centres on improving the integration of good design, purposeful technology and sustainability into the ECDC masterplan and buildings, from concept to operation.

Earls Court Development Company chief executive Rob Heasman said that in his new role as head of urban futures Runacres would “help champion a responsible design approach at a time of incredible change and awareness of the climate crisis”.

Runacres added: “Here at Earls Court, the challenge is to create something that is genuinely forward-looking and that changes people’s perceptions of how we should approach large-scale urban regeneration.

“Part of what inspires me about this project is the focus on long-term, holistic solutions to the climate emergency. Sustainable design has always been a priority for me throughout my career, and I look forward to working on creative solutions to deliver a development which is truly sustainable and future-proof.”
