Hammerson plans 450 homes in Reading mall regeneration

Hammerson has submitted a planning application for the regeneration of the Oracle shopping centre in Reading, including 449 build-to-rent homes and 94,000 sq ft of reconfigured retail, entertainment and workspace.

The proposal includes transforming the eastern quarter of the Oracle into a mixed-use scheme.

The development, located along the River Kennet, will include 28,000 sq ft of film space, 38,000 sq ft of retail space and 28,000 sq ft of flexible workspace, entertainment and leisure space.

The proposal was designed by architects CallisonRTKL and delivered in partnership with built-to-rent developer Packaged Living.

Packaged Living joint managing director Mark Woodrow said the scheme would provide “high energy efficiency, low carbon solutions and lower costs for the residents that will live there”.

John Lewis Partnership selected a former warehouse off Mill Lane in Reading, that sits across the River Kennet from the Oracle, earlier last year for a £500m BTR scheme.
