Wates Group hires Eoghan O’Lionaird as chief executive

Wates Group has appointed Eoghan O’Lionaird as its new chief executive.

O’Lionaird will join Wates on 20 February from his previous role as chief executive at FTSE-listed marine services company James Fisher and Sons. He will sit on the Wates Group Board.

He takes over from Philip Wainwright, who will return to the role of CFO after serving as interim chief executive for the past six months.

Previously O’Lionaird has held executive roles at Spectris, Danaher Corporation, Philips and Mitsui Kinzoku.

Sir James Wates, chair of the family-owned development, construction and property services company, said: “Eoghan is a globally accomplished, motivational leader with an impressive track record in industry and we are very pleased to be welcoming him to Wates. We are excited to appoint Eoghan to lead us into the next stage of our history.”

O’Lionaird said: “What marks Wates out from the competition is how it has rallied its people around a purpose greater than profit alone. This is clear from its commitment to making the built environment more sustainable. I am looking forward to contributing to the group’s strategy and marshalling the resources needed to achieve its ambitions.”
