Workers return to regional offices more readily

Workers outside London, especially those with shorter commutes on public transport, are more likely to be returning to their offices.

Regional REIT said that virtually all of its tenants were back in their offices for at least part of the week. Of the company’s 1,042 tenants, just 12 had stayed away from their offices, and two of those were Scottish government departments.

The REIT said about 30% of its tenants had reopened their offices after the pandemic as of a year ago and that has now risen to 99%.

According to the latest data from Remit Consulting, offices in the West End of London and Canary Wharf are rarely more than 50% full, down from a pre-pandemic average of 70%.
