London & Associated Properties has appointed John Heller as chairman and chief executive, following the death of his father Sir Michael Heller last month.
LAP, which owns the Orchard Square shopping centre in Sheffield and Kings Square in West Bromwich, is listed on the main market of the London Stock Exchange.
The board said John Heller, who has been chief executive since 2001, would take the chair with immediate effect.
Sir Michael Heller passed away on 30 January. He had been at the helm of LAP since he and his family acquired a significant stake in London & Associated Investment Trust in 1971. He became executive chairman in 1977.
Prior to the Heller family’s involvement, LAP invested in listed shares with a heavy weighting in mining companies. After he became executive chairman, Heller changed the emphasis to real estate, specialising in shopping centres.
Sir Michael Heller was knighted in the 2013 New Years Honours list for philanthropy.
