Swedish medtech firm picks Derby for UK headquarters

Sweden-based Getinge has revealed plans to establish its UK headquarters alongside a new research and development hub.

The medical technology manufacturer has chosen St Modwen Park Derby to create a 78,000 sq ft Global Centre of Excellence for Chemistry, which is expected to become operational in August. The centre will create new products and solutions for the healthcare industry.

In addition, the firm plans to bring forward a new training academy to supplement the current expertise of its workforce with young talent available in the region.

A dedicated showroom will also be installed to allow Getinge to showcase products across its portfolio.

The deal follows a £46.5m investment by St Modwen Logistics into the park, allowing the regeneration of 67 acres of brownfield land and development of warehouse spaces totalling more than 300,000 sq ft.

Bob Newsome, managing director of the Centre of Excellence for Chemistry at Getinge, said: “By relocating to this new, larger facility we continue to execute on our strategic ambition to widen our infection control portfolio towards consumables, developed and manufactured in-house, which will make our financial performance more robust and sustainable.”

Robert Richardson, development director at St Modwen Logistics, added: “St Modwen Logistics has been working with Bob and his team for more than three years to understand the businesses needs of Getinge to ensure that we developed the type of building necessary to support their operations.”
