Kadans reveals proposals for Cambridge’s Merlin Place

Kadans Science Partner has lodged redevelopment plans for Merlin Place in Cambridge.

The scheme is opposite Cambridge Science Park and close to the recently opened Cambridge North train station. It has been vacant since 2022.

Kadans is set to redevelop the 29,135 sq ft building into 135,000 sq ft of purpose-built laboratories and offices. The developer aims to tackle the lack of research and development space across the UK, felt most acutely in the Golden Triangle. The new building has been designed by Kadans’ in-house team alongside HOK.

Edward Joslin, development director at Kadans, said: “After extensive design work over 18 months and collaboration with Cambridge City council planners, we have taken a step closer to delivering our science-focused building.”

Katie Nelson, senior asset manager at Kadans, said: “It will provide much-needed lab space in a market that is suffering from chronic undersupply.”
