Just eight developers remain on the non-compliance list to sign a contract requiring them to remediate unsafe buildings.
Irish developer Ballymore, recently signed by LLDC for Stratford Waterfront (pictured), was the latest to sign the contract, adding its name on 17 March.
A total of 39 developers, including major housebuilders as well as Landsec and British Land, signed the contract before last Monday’s deadline. Others were given a “grace period” to allow them to comply.
Developers that don’t sign the contract risk having their right to build removed by the secretary of state for levelling up. Michael Gove said he would be writing to local authorities to advise them not to accept applications from developers that refused to sign.
As well as Ballymore, Telford Homes and London Square have been taken off the non-compliance list.
London Square said it should never have been put on the list, as the contract sent out by ministers did not take into account that none of the homes it had built required remediation.
Telford Homes chief executive Anne Kavanagh told EG that the company had not previously signed because it was awaiting shareholder approval and that it had not received the final contracts from the government.
Kavanagh said: “We hope to not see any more retrospective legislation as it makes it impossible to do business.”
To date, the eight developers yet to sign are: Abbey Developments; Avant; Dandara; Emerson Group’s Jones Homes; Galliard Homes; Inland Homes; Lendlease; and Rydon Homes.
Galliard and Dandara have said they are likely to sign, but are finalising details.
