Bellway Homes and Latimer, the development arm of affordable homes provider Clarion Housing Group, received planning consent for 351 homes that will provide the first phase of the 1,200-homes Springstead Village development in Cambridge.
The homes will be a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and maisonettes and two-to-four-bedroom houses. This first phase includes 59 affordable homes for rent or shared ownership and 91 homes for private sale.
The phase was approved in a planning meeting last week held by the Joint Development Control Committee of Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council.
Bellway and Latimer had previously received outline planning consent for 1,200 homes at Springstead Village in December 2020.
Springstead Village, located north of Cherry Hinton, will also provide its own local centre, a new primary and secondary school, sports and recreation areas, community facilities, allotments, and landscaped open spaces.
Bellway managing director Phil Standen said: “The homes will be built to standards beyond current regulatory requirements in their use of materials, but there will also be new technologies such as air source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points for all homes. Our plans will minimise the impact the homes have on our carbon footprint during construction and after.
“There will also be ecological benefits, with existing habitats enhanced, new nature areas created, and more green space opened up for local residents to enjoy.
“The council’s support for our application is a result of prolonged collaboration between all parties to ensure all standards are met and our joint objectives can be celebrated in this future-ready community.”
