The Bank of England is likely to raise interest rates once more in its tightening cycle, according to a Reuters poll of economists.
The survey found that 33 of 61 economists polled expected the rate to be hiked by 25 basis points to 4.5% on 11 May. Three of those 33 expected one more rise in June. The remaining 28 believe rates are on hold.
“The Bank of England will want to see clear evidence inflation is falling before pausing its hiking efforts. But we do think the days of tightening are limited and we are near the end of that cycle as inflation pressures ease,” said Ellie Henderson at Investec.
