Business leaders back Barratt chair John Allan

Departing Barratt chair and former CBI president John Allan has been supported by 11 City figures following allegations about his behaviour.

The individuals have signed a letter stating that Allan has been “publicly traduced” by allegations that he touched women inappropriately at events run by Tesco and the CBI.

Allan stepped down as chairman of Tesco and of Barratt Developments in the last two weeks to avoid the claims becoming “disruptive” to both companies.

Signatories include Pippa Wicks, former head of John Lewis department stores, and Sue Farr, a non-executive director at British American Tobacco and THG. Sir Ron Kalifa, chairman of Network International, and Seb James, chief executive of Boots UK, also support a statement that the “allegations… do not reflect the character of the man we know”.
