Radisson RED gets green light

Plans for the £20m refurbishment of the historic George Hotel in Huddersfield have been given the go-ahead by Kirklees Council’s planning committee.

The 91-bedroom boutique hotel, which will be operated by Radisson RED, forms part of the wider Huddersfield Blueprint, a 10-year vision to create a thriving town centre.

The hotel will also feature a 70-seat restaurant and conference facilities for up to 100 covers.

Kirkless Council leader Shabir Pandor, said: “Huddersfield town centre has needed a high-quality hotel and Radisson RED is a stand-out international hotel brand known for its style and customer service.

“Alongside our wider Huddersfield Blueprint plans and Our Cultural Heart, the George will act as an impressive gateway to the town centre and continue to grow our profile as an attractive destination for tourism and business.”

Kirklees Council has appointed Morgan Sindall as contractor in a pre-contract service agreement and Queensberry as development manager.
