Prince William’s plan to end homelessness “for good” has attracted star supporters and detractors.
His Royal Foundation has selected six locations across the UK to be the focus for Homewards, a £3m scheme aimed at making sure homelessness is “rare, brief and unrepeated”.
He has been supported by homeless charities Centrepoint, Crisis, The Big Issue and The Passage, who said in a joint letter that the prince’s involvement was “crucial” if “we want to truly end homelessness”.
The programme will emulate the Housing First model adopted in Finland and parts of the US, which aims to build apartments for homeless people and gradually remove the need for hostels.
While the prince has plenty of supporters, including former Spice Girl Geri Horner, some members of the public think he should go further. One called James O’Brien’s show on LBC to insist that the prince put his assets where his mouth is and sell his estates to build housing.
