Retail sales volumes fall further

UK retailers suffered another month of falling sales in June as slow economic growth stretched household finances.

The latest CBI monthly survey found that retail sales volumes fell by 9%, compared with the same period last year.

It is the second consecutive decline, after a 10% fall in May.

June’s performance was in line with forecasts and comes after overall retail sales growth slowed last month, according to the Office for National Statistics.
