AXA IM Alts has promoted Laurent Lavergne to the new role of global head of sustainability.
The move will see Lavergne, who has been with the €185bn AUM alternative investments firm since 1994, taking on responsibility for the sustainability strategy across all business lines, including real estate, infrastructure and alternative credit.
Lavergne was most recently global head of asset management and development within the real estate business line.
He will now oversee the ongoing implementation of AXA IM Alts’ decarbonisation strategy across its direct investments, with a particular focus on those in the real estate, infrastructure and natural capital sectors.
Lavergne will take up the role on 1 October 2023.
He will report directly to AXA IM Alts’ global head Isabelle Scemama, and will also take over the responsibilities of Justin Travlos, the current global head of responsible investment, primarily focused on real estate and infrastructure.
AXA IM Alts said that after five years with the firm, Travlos had decided to return to Australia and will leave the business towards the end of 2023.
Scemama said: “Sustainable investment is integral to our business and plays a fundamental role in our decision making to ensure we deliver value to our clients through future proofed investments that positively impact the world around us. Laurent has a strong track record of overseeing complex investment projects and strategies, and his deep-rooted understanding of our business and extensive experience managing our global sustainable development platform will be invaluable in his new role. His appointment marks a critical point in the acceleration of our decarbonisation strategy across our business lines, as we continue to protect our investments, mitigate against climate risk and advance our market leading approach in this field.”
