Bruntwood reveals £1.7bn Manchester innovation district plan

Bruntwood SciTech and the University of Manchester have revealed a £1.7bn masterplan for the city centre’s new innovation district.

The newly published draft sets out the opportunities that the ID Manchester scheme will bring to the city through the regeneration of a new civic square, a revitalised Vimto Park and the repurposing of the Sackville Street and Renold buildings.

The proposals are set to create over 2m sq ft of commercial and retail space, and over 1,500 homes, bringing over 10,000 new jobs to the city.

John Holden, associate vice-president for major special projects at the University of Manchester, said: “ID Manchester will see the transformation of the university’s north campus, breathing new life into the site with a renewed purpose to drive positive economic, social and environmental change through innovation.”

Other parties involved in the project include Allies and Morrison, SLA, Stanhope, Deloitte, Arup, Stephen Levrant Heritage Architecture, Useful Projects, Ekosgen and Arcadis.
