Virgin Media makes 2,000 redundant

Virgin Media O2 is cutting 2,000 jobs as it battles to reduce costs and ease its debt position.

Redundancy notices were issued to some staff on Monday night.

The merger of Virgin with O2 in 2021 saddled the company with some £20bn of debt. At the time of the deal, the group said it expected to spend £700m on “integration costs” between then and 2025 as it got rid of duplicated jobs and infrastructure.

In February, Virgin Media O2 signed a deal with British Land to take 83,000 sq ft at 3 Sheldon Square in Paddington. The building opens for occupation in February 2024.
