A joint venture between the University of Oxford and Legal & General has revealed plans for 1.7m sq ft of R&D space and 1,800 homes.
Oxford University Development has submitted proposals to Cherwell District Council seeking to address the lack of housing and laboratory space in the region through the development of new homes and life sciences-related space.
The proposed mixed-use scheme (pictured), designed by Hawkins/Brown, is expected to be built on the 421-acre site adjacent to Begbroke Science Park. It will add an extra 1.7m sq ft of research and development, dry and wet labs, storage, office and industrial facilities. Planning papers say it will have a GVA of around £365m.
The plans also include the delivery of 1,800 new homes, half of which are expected to be affordable.
In addition, the scheme features 226,000 sq ft of amenity space, including retail, a gym, café and restaurant, farm shop, nursery, school, community building and sports pitch.
If approved, the construction of the project is scheduled to begin in 2025.
There are around 30 companies and more than 20 research groups currently based at the Begbroke Science Park, including IntraBio, iotaSciences, Nekton, Obsydia, Oxford Ionics, Refinity, Sonosine, Adaptix, FluoRok, HydRegen.
