After a mere 141 years, work on the towers of the Sagrada Familia is finally complete.
Scaffolding is being removed at the Barcelona cathedral, designed by Antonio Gaudi, and the last two of the four towers, which each represent one of the four evangelists, have been crowned with their final sculptural pieces, with Matthew recieveing an angel and John an eagle. They join Mark and Luke, in the forms of a lion and an ox.
Not that the all the work is finished, of course. Attention will now be devoted to the final and tallest tower, dedicated to Jesus. If all goes to plan, the church’s construction will be finished by 2026.
And there is the entrance to construct, which may require the demolition of several hundred homes. And the main façade to design. But other than that, it’s nearly done.
