PM’s net zero reversals deter investors, says Climate Change Committee

The prime minister’s net zero reversals have damaged the UK’s ability to meet its climate goals and put off investors, the Climate Change Committee has warned.

The CCC said the general sense that the government is “weakening its commitments” to shifting to a green economy had sent adverse signals to consumers, businesses and other governments.

In a damning verdict on the prime minister’s announcements last month, the CCC warned of a “substantial policy gap” that was putting the UK off track to meet its crucial 2030 carbon targets.

Acting chair Piers Forster said: “We remain concerned about the likelihood of achieving the UK’s future targets.”
