ESG benchmarking organisation GRESB has adopted Social Value Portal’s real estate social value index as a building certification for its international assessments.
Social Value Portal’s RESVI tool will provide full points certification for real estate.
It is the first platform to be used by GRESB to score buildings on the “S” in ESG, which stands for environment, social and governance.
Tim Cornford, head of asset management at investment manager Ellandi, said the move would boost the connection between generating a positive social impact and financial returns.
“Measuring social value is fundamental to creating inclusive and sustainable town centres, and with RESVI being fully accredited by GRESB this will assist in our mission of making social impact and financial returns intrinsically linked,” said Cornford.
Social Value Portal chief executive Guy Battle said investors were “quite rightly” demanding action on ESG and data transparency.
Battle said: “By providing a complete, structured solution to track social value across all assets in a portfolio, this GRESB certification will help asset owners and investors to demonstrate their ESG commitments, contribute to the scoring of the GRESB real estate assessment, and add value to the asset, its occupiers and the area that surrounds it.”
