Bruntwood SciTech’s plans to transform the Met Tower into a tech and digital hub have been approved by Glasgow City Council.
The £60m transformation will see the office building, which has been vacant for more than a decade, form part of the Glasgow City Innovation District.
The joint venture bought the building in May 2022 for £16.2m with plans to invest around £30m to retrofit the grade-B listed building.
In April last year, the developer doubled up on its transformation plans by proposing to deliver a new 10-storey tower adjoining the 14-storey former City of Glasgow College building.
The two towers will provide than 200,000 sq ft of serviced and leased offices.
Enabling works on the site are under way and construction work is expected to commence in spring next year.
Both buildings are expected to achieve BREEAM Excellent, NABERS 5 -Star rating and EPC A ratings.
Daron Williams, building consultancy director at Bruntwood SciTech, said: “This approval enables us to continue progressing forwards and while the site preparations continue the rest of this year we’ll be firming up our final design details and getting ready to start the refurbishment of Met Tower next year.”
