Fabrix’s London crown court redevelopment in receivership

A redevelopment of London’s Blackfriars Crown Court, set to boast a 1.4-acre rooftop forest, has been placed into receivership over a loan from the Reuben brothers’ Motcomb Estates.

Motcomb has appointed Georgina Eason and Michael Sanders of MHA as receivers to a Fabrix-tied company that owns 1 Pocock Street in Southwark, according to Companies House filings.

Fabrix had been redeveloping the site as a scheme called Roots in the Sky. A source close to Fabrix said the company is in discussions with Motcomb over what the next steps will be.

Fabrix bought the site in 2019 from HM Courts and Tribunals Service for £65m. It had marketed the premises for offers above £45m.

The Roots in the Sky proposals included 430,000 sq ft of office, commercial and community space.
