Brookfield pulls Center Parcs sale

Brookfield has called off the sale of Center Parcs after failing to find a buyer willing to pay its asking price.

Brookfield Property Partners, which bought Center Parcs eight years ago from Blackstone for £2.4bn, put the business up for sale earlier this year with a £5bn price tag.

The rapid rise in the cost of debt saw a number of favourites pull out, and Brookfield lowering expectations to £4bn.

It is understood that the highest bids received were in the region of £3.7bn.

Investors were concerned about the lack of potential for further growth, after Center Parcs pulled plans for its seventh site this year after environmental surveys showed the site was unsuitable.

Brookfield is still considering offloading a minority stake or recapitalising Center Parcs, but could also opt to hold the resort group for several more years.
